For You…Yes. For your Visitors…NO!!!

There are many basic “decorating 101″ tips that when decorating your home for personal use are best to adhere to, such as hanging artwork 3″ – 8” above the surface of a  furniture piece (i.e. a sofa or console), or adding those special tchotchkes throughout your home to give each space that extra little touch or spark! That is fine for your personal living space but when you are decorating for your STR, here are some slight decor modification you might want to consider:

  • Hang that gorgeous artwork – more like 10″-15″ above that sofa. I cringed when I first did it but the last thing you want is to find that artwork on the floor behind the sofa because someone plopped down on your sofa and knocked it down as their head fell against or less face, your visitors may sometimes have one or two drinks too many and any low-hanging artwork may find its way to the floor. There’s no guarantee that it still won’t but it decreases that occurring dramatically.
  • NO TCHOTCHKES – fragile ones, that is. The glass vases, the delicate glass figurines,…you get it…I can almost guarantee that you or your cleaning crew will be sweeping up broken glass or find that lovely umber vase that blended perfectly with the umber vein in the area rug in the garbage in 102 pieces. Of course, you want your STR to look unique and have those special touches, but a nice wooden, decorative bowl and some books on the coffee table would serve you better.
  • When it comes to dishes, of course you do not want to have your guests eating from paper plates and Solo cups. But when purchasing dishware for your SRT, look for durability, versatility and dishes that are dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Inevitably, something will be broken so you can keep it neat and the look congurent without breaking the bank. Also, to keep that classy, well-kept kitchen aesthetic, be sure that your dishware has a uniform look. If you want two sets of dishware in different colors in your kitchen to give it more pizzazz, purchase two separate sets in your color preferences.

Hopefully, these few helpful tips will alleviate the stress of finding the dreaded broken items and a create a more care-free stay for your visitors!
